Nancy Brinker was born on the 6th of December 1946 in Illinois to Marvin and Eleanor. Her father was a real estate developer while her mother was a home maker. It is Eleanor who integrated the spirit of philanthropy in her daughter by her constant acts of charity through which she helped those less fortunate than the family.

Nancy was raised as a Jew which helped her develop a sense of community from a very early stage. When she was six, she worked in conjunction with her sister to organize a successful variety show that helped raise funds for fight against polio.

She had a pretty normal childhood before joining the Illinois University based at Urbana Champaign where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1968. At college, she was a member of her university’s students senate in addition to being her sorority’s president.

The most important thing to know about Nancy Brinker is her career because it is one of the most outstanding. After college, she began her career in marketing and business in Texas where she began as a courture buyer at an assistant level. Later on she was a member of a program for executive training, a host at a talk show, a public relations director, an account executive, a founder and a member on the BOD of the Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer and an American Ambassador to the Hungarian republic.

Notably about Nancy Brinker is her contribution to the fight against breast cancer. Her sister, Susan Komen died from cancer of the breast at the age of 36 thus prompting Ms. Brinker to found the Susan Komen foundation for Breast Cancer in honor of her sister.

After her sister passed on from breast cancer, Nancy met Norman Brinker, a multimillionaire who was also passionate about the fight against cancer. Norman’s first wife had also succumbed to cancer at the age of 30. Within month of the meeting, Norman wed Nancy thus affording her financial freedom to enable her leave her employment and start working towards the fight against cancer.

The mission of this foundation is to completely get rid of this disease by improving on the treatment, education, screening and research into breast cancer. Since it came up way back in 1982, this organization has really grown to become a global force with networks of different volunteers who help to raise awareness and money through a variety of local affiliates. They also help to sponsor Komen races for cure events. There are 100 such races held every year all round the world than draw more than a million participants. These races raise a lot of money in addition to delivering the message needed to support survivors.

To come to a conclusion, the most conspicuous thing about Nancy Brinker is her dedication to the fight against breast cancer. Although she has contributed and continues to contribute to society in a number of ways (including her contribution as the Chief- Of- Protocol for the US government), her most famous achievement is in the prevention of cancer through treatment and education.
